Why a therapist built an email list

Hi, I’m Ruth. I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor in British Columbia, a first-generation Nigerian Canadian, and the founder of Rooted, a community and directory for Black therapists and mental health practitioners in Canada.

When it came time to write to Rooted’s founding practitioners, none of the email tools felt like they were made for people like us. They were built for selling. I wanted something that felt like writing a letter, kept a clear record of who had asked to hear from me, and never made it easy to write to someone who hadn’t.

So I built Kindred. It is the list Rooted uses every day, and now I’m opening it to other therapists and practices who want the same thing: a way to stay close to the people they serve, with care, consent and honesty built in.
